Petzuva, The Pet Lover’s Network, is calling attention to the urgent situation at Paws Humane Society, where more than 500 animals are currently waiting for homes. The no-kill shelter recently declared an emergency after reaching full capacity, stating that at least 100 dogs must be adopted before new animals can be accepted.
In the first day following the announcement, a handful of animals were adopted, but the numbers remain far below the goal needed to ease overcrowding. Large dogs are of particular concern, as many are being housed in temporary crates and even moved into cat areas due to the shortage of space.
Currently, approximately 540 animals remain under the shelter’s care across its humane society and animal services division, not including foster animals. Another 440 are waiting to enter the shelter through neighborhood programs and pending surrenders. Until space is freed, the shelter cannot take in these waiting animals.
“This is a critical moment for the community to step up,” said Courtney Pierce, Executive Director of Paws Humane. “Adoptions and foster placements are the only way we can continue to provide care for the many animals still waiting.”
Petzuva is proud to spotlight the efforts of organizations like Paws Humane and urges the community to take action. Every adoption makes a difference, and the need has never been more urgent.
